How biomethane could play a key role in Northern Ireland’s drive to net-zero was a key talking point during last week’s visit to Encirc by the leader of the Democratic Unionist Party, Gavin Robinson MP.

The leader was accompanied by MLAs Deborah Erskine and Phillip Brett.

Some of the challenges facing the glass industry such as glass recycling and creating a circular economy in NI were also discussed in a very constructive meeting.

This engagement comes after the visit of Economy Minister Conor Murphy and Minister for the Environment, Agriculture and Rural Affairs Andrew Muir to Derrylin before Christmas.

Sean Murphy, Managing Director at Encirc said: “We were delighted to welcome Gavin, Deborah and Phillip to Derrylin to see firsthand what we do and to hear of our plans.

“Collaboration between the public and private sectors will be crucial as we plot a path toward our net-zero goals while ensuring the successful future of our business.

“To this end, Encirc will continue to engage with elected representatives from across the political spectrum to secure the best outcomes for our company and community.”

DUP Leader Gavin Robinson MP said: “Encirc has shown that is it leading the way not just in the production of glass bottles, but the innovative ways it is adapting to meet climate change targets, with environmentally sustainable practices. It was good to have a discussion with the company, as they continue this journey and to hear of their plans.”

He added: “I was excited and enthralled to visit Encirc, which is very much proud to be situated in Fermanagh, providing employment and opportunities for the residents of the county.

“As political representatives it is important that we continue to support our local, home-grown business who are world renown and certainly we will strive to do that.”
