It’s Beautiful Down South

Tasting and assessing wine is rarely an absolute measure of quality. Instead, we tend to make comparisons between the relative characteristics of wines tasted side by side.

With this in mind, the Encirc Wines team has spent the past two days at the Beautiful South Tasting in London, where wines from South Africa, Argentina and Chile sat alongside each other.

Keen to show support to the producers exhibiting, Encirc Wines decided to sponsor the event, as well as bring along Rob Higgs’s ‘Corkscrew’ to open the numerous bottles of wine that were around.

The machine – a seven foot high contraption made from 300 pieces of scrap metal – definitely drew a crowd, and fitted in well with the event, which itself was unique in that it allowed comparisons between wines to be made easily and confidently.

The past few years have seen a huge rise in British demand for wines from the Southern Hemisphere, and it was fantastic to see so many vineyards and different types of wine being represented. The number of visitors also hinted at a positive future for New World producers, with the event smashing its target of 1,000 attendees over the two days.

For us, the highlight had to be when World Wine Tasting Champion, Oz Clarke, popped over to our stand to have a look at the Corkscrew and pose for some photos – a true gent and one that left us all star struck!
